Patent for Long Time Storage of Low Temp Pharmaceuticals

Taylor & Edelstein obtains patent for client Schott Pharma for a pharmaceutical storage system.

This container system is designed to store medicines for a long time, especially at very cold temperatures. It includes a container with a neck and a top rim, a stopper with a flat top part and a plug that fits into the neck, and a holding piece that presses the stopper tightly against the container. The tight fit creates a sealed area between the container’s top edge and the stopper’s flat part, ranging from 30 to 300 square millimeters. The holding piece also compresses the stopper’s flat part, reducing its height by 10% to 40% in the sealed area, which helps keep everything locked in place and leak-proof, even at very low temperatures.

The reason this system is unique is regular storage containers for medicines can have problems when they’re kept super cold (-80°C or even -190°C) or when they go from cold to room temperature. Normal containers might leak, the stopper might get brittle and crack, or it could slip out of place because of pressure changes inside and outside the container. It keeps medicine sterile and safe for days or even years. This invention solves those issues by making sure the stopper stays secure and the seal holds strong, no matter the temperature or pressure differences.
